A project for an architectural bureau, focused on how the museum meets its urban context and natural light. Cold winter light, bare trees and restrained Scandinavian architecture — a building that belongs to its northern city. A concept for a new building for the Sara Hildén Art Museum in Tampere, made for the practice AB-Kontext. The museum bears the name of a businesswoman and collector whose collection numbers about 4,600 works, mostly art of the 1960s and 70s. The design is a row of pale volumes under steep pitched roofs with rooflights: outside they echo the red brick of Tampere's old factory buildings, inside they give the galleries an even northern light. The stills had the same task: to show how the building takes its place in the city fabric and works with light. The six of them, made in ten days, are a northern winter: bare trees and snow by the pitched volumes at dusk, warm ground-floor windows beneath the pale textured facade, a wet street in a thaw between red brick and the new museum, and a mirrored sphere on a snowy square.
