Arctic Hotel — architectural 3D visualization and CGI animation by Saccade studio. Project: Sever Bureau, Rovaniemi, 2024. Client: Sever Bureau. Project type: hotel. A Young Architects Competition entry: a hotel above the Arctic Circle. The volumes dissolve into the Lapland winter — snow, low northern sun, dark silhouettes of pines. Designed by Aleksey Demidov and Sofia Arutyunova, Sever Bureau. A competition design for a hotel on Ounasvaara hill in Rovaniemi, right by the Arctic Circle — an entry for Young Architects Competitions and the City of Rovaniemi by Alexey Demidov and Sofia Arutyunova of Sever, shortlisted among the 30 finalists. A row of dark ribbed volumes with rounded roofs, as if drifted over with snow, stands in a Lapland pine forest, with rooms, a spa and open-air pools between them. The walls are made of textured concrete with embedded glass fibres that work like light guides: at night the light from inside comes through the concrete as a scatter of points, and the buildings shimmer as if the starry sky had come down into the forest. We told the hotel as a single winter day laid out in 12 stills — six days of work: a snow groomer clears the road by the buildings, guests walk along a snowy street under the northern lights, a girl jumps into a steaming pool, loungers glow right in the water of the spa, snow sticks to the ribs of the facade, and from the groomer's cab the buildings appear in the morning haze.
